Australian author and illustrator Gregory Rogers died of stomach cancer in Brisbane on May 1. He was 55.

John A. Ware, president of John A. Ware Literary Agency, died April 27 at age 71. He launched his literary agency in 1978 after working as an agent at Curtis Brown, preceded by eight years as an editor at Doubleday, where he was first to publish Tracy Kidder.

David Poindexter, founder of the San Francisco independent publishing house MacAdam Cage, died Monday after a bout with cancer.

Fredrick L. McKissack, who with his wife and partner Patricia created more than 100 books illuminating aspects of the African-American experience, died of heart failure on April 28.
