Description | Reports to the Director of the Harvard Education Publishing Group (HEPG). Works with Director and leadership team to set direction and execute plans to increase sales and visibility for three book and journal imprints in a rapidly changing field. Sales and Business Development: Responsible for identifying and developing new business strategies and opportunities designed to increase sales for HEPG imprints and products, both print and electronic. Identifies new publishing opportunities and products. Researches new avenues of book distribution and leads effort to shape sales strategies for all HEPG publishing products. Negotiates agreements with external partners, third party distributors, and wholesalers. Maintains regular contact with a range of accounts to provide information on new and backlist titles. Monitors and works with online vendors to make sure all HEPG book information is posted and accurate. Develops relationships with appropriate booksellers to negotiate and encourage a highly visible display of HEPG books. Manages journal advertising, including planning, solicitation, budgeting, billing, and developing and maintaining exchange ads. Works closely with circulation and book sales operations to increase subscriptions and book sales. Manages budgets for sales and business development. Marketing: Oversees marketing/publicity team. Works closely with Marketing Manager, Publicist, and Designer on brand development, communications, market research, and marketing campaigns. Supervises Marketing Manager and consults on marketing and publicity strategies and plans. Oversees marketing/publicity budget. BA required. 5+ years directly related book marketing and sales experience. Strong written communication skills required. Occasional travel required. Experience working in education market strongly preferred as is previous journal marketing experience. Ability to demonstrate strong strategic planning and management experience. Proven ability in identifying new markets and products and improving sales and visibility. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, handle multiple projects simultaneously, and collaborate with colleagues. Strong verbal communication skills essential as is a good eye for design.
